Planet Earth is Sick
From the latter half of 2019 to the spring of 2020, Planet Earth has been visited by multiple disasters. Swine u, catastrophic wildres that raged for months in Australia, a plague of locusts in Africa that landed on crops which disappeared in seconds, the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as volcanic eruptions and earthquakes.A lot of people are worried. What’s going on with our planet? Will things get better?
All creatures on the planet form an integral whole. We belong here, on this planet and in this universe. According to the Butterfly Effect, a slight move in one part may affect the whole world, meaning that we cannot control the myriad changes resulting from a series of causes and effects. We truly have no respect. Destructive mining, excessive development, pollution... all have overwhelmed the planet. Earth is sick. It’s trying to cure itself through an adjustment of frequencies.
Our position on the planet’s surface is delicate. The consequences for us are potentially devastating. Ultimately, sickness is a warning. If not cured, it will lead to a greater “fracture”. And the definition of cure is to know how to recover, what to do after the recovery and how to avoid making the same mistakes. As I often say, Tao is in everything. Tao is in the universe, in all things in the universe, and in human lives. As humans, the most important thing for us is to act according to Tao. The concentrated outbreak of disasters reminds us to return to “Tao”.
In the global pandemic, people have settled at home. Cities have grown quiet at night. Perhaps this is the opportunity for our country to reect. The ones who are causing such severe damage to the planet can nally walk on the path of “Tao”, which forbids such destruction.
The locusts are not evil. They are living creatures. They want to stay alive. A virus is not evil. It is a living creature. It wants to stay alive. It does this by spreading from one human to another. Unfortunately, that causes great suffering.
The people who set the wildres—they are criminals. The people who cut down rainforests—they are stealing from future generations. The people who hunt a priceless heritage of ancient life—the Rhino—for greed and lust. They are destroyers. We will reap what we sow.
Tao is mindless. We will not be able to cope with the forces of nature we unleash by our actions.
We should reect on our willful massacre of other creatures that upset the ecological balance that made way for the spreading of the virus. If we all acted according to Tao with regard for other creatures and self- discipline, we can “attain the utmost in passivity and hold rm to the basis of quietude” to reach a state of “original simplicity”, we will be healthy and generate wisdom. The planet will recover if given the chance.
In this global pandemic, few of us are qualied to act as rst responders. Still, we can do our bit to benet the family. In the time when we cannot go out, we can revive the art of conversation and do the other things we have put aside. This is what we call “returning home”. Each meal warms us together, as if around a campre. Each plant we grow at home, each bowl and glass, are signs of civilization, which, like time, is a precious thing. We can read and study. The Earth wants us to provide her with silence and peace.
Are we listening?
