#01zebra crossing斑马线
“斑马线”中虽然有“线”字
但英文表达中并没有line这个词
正确表达是zebra crossing
其中，crossing 可以表示“十字路口”
When walking on the zebra crossing, the old man was hit by a car.
老人通过斑马线时被车撞了。
对话
A:You must walk on the zebra crossing when you cross the street.
过马路时一定要走斑马线。
B:Yes,i will.
知道了，我会的。
另外
sidewalk也是“人行道、斑马线”
“人行道”不能按照字面翻译成
a road for people
Don"t park the car on the sidewalk.
不要把车停在人行道上。
还可以用walkway表示
路上的“行人”则是pedestrian

#02rush hour高峰时间
看到这个词，有没有想起电影《尖峰时刻》？形容的也是时间紧迫，任务紧急的情况。
“高峰时间”指每天交通量最大的时候
经常是人们匆忙赶着上班或回家的时候
所以英语中用rush hour表示
The traffic is quite heavy during the rush hours.
高峰时间的交通很拥挤。
对话
A:You are late again.
你又迟到了。
B:I"m sorry.But I was caught in a traffic jam during the rush hour.
很抱歉，但是我遇上了高峰时间的交通阻塞。

#03come across偶然遇到
I came across Mary in the street that day.
我那天在街上偶然遇到了玛丽。
对话
A:I came across an old friend at a party yesterday.
我昨天在派对上偶然遇到一位老朋友。
B:Is it Jim?
是吉姆吗?
“偶然遇到”还可以表示为run across
或者run into
We had the misfortune to run into a violent storm.
我们不幸遭遇了猛烈的暴风雨。

#04joy ride兜风
“兜风”中虽然有个“风”字
但是它的英文表达中却没有wind一词
“兜风”实际上是指“开车出去散心”
所以可以用joy ride表示
Jim wants to take Mary out for a joy ride.
吉姆想带玛丽出去兜兜风。
对话
A:I want to go out for a joy ride.
我想出去兜兜风。
B:OK.Let"s go.
好的，走吧。
除了用joy ride来表示“兜风”外
还可以用drive/ride around for fun
字面意思：开车四处游玩，很贴切

#05underpass地下通道
It is safer to walk through the underpass.
走地下通道更安全。
对话
A:What did Mr.Smith propose at the meeting?
史密斯先生在会议上提出了什么建议?
B:He proposed to build more underpasses.
他提议建设更多的地下通道。
和“地下通道”相对的“天桥”
英语是overpass或者overbridge
An overpass is being put up at the corner of the street.
那条街的拐角处正在建过街天桥。
