Roger Williams罗杰·威廉姆斯

Roger Williams was an English theologian and founder of the colony of Rhode Island in the 17th century. Born in London in 1603, Williams was trained as a Puritan minister and later became disillusioned with the established church. He believed in the separation of church and state, and was a strong advocate for religious freedom and tolerance.

He was convicted of disseminating new and dangerous opinions, and was banished from the Massachusetts colony in 1635.

The colony rapidly grew and became known for its religious and political freedoms, becoming a refuge for Quakers, Baptists, and other groups.
